4.3 Advertising in Some Apps

Some WagDev apps display banner advertisements through Google AdMob. Whether a specific app uses ads is disclosed in that app's Privacy Policy Supplement — not every app does, and we never enable ads in an app without disclosing it.

When an app does serve ads, Google AdMob collects the following data on Google's behalf:

Google's use of this data is governed by Google's privacy policy and the Google Mobile Ads SDK terms. We do not share any user-generated content (workout entries, journal entries, notes, tasks, photos, etc.) with AdMob or any advertising provider. AdMob only receives the data listed above, which is necessary for serving and measuring ads.

European Economic Area (EEA), UK, and Swiss users are shown a Google-provided consent message, presented through Google's User Messaging Platform, before any ad is requested, in compliance with the GDPR and ePrivacy Directive. The message is shown even where the ads that follow will be non-personalized, because serving any ad at all still involves storing or reading information on the device: choosing non-personalized narrows what is used rather than removing the need to ask. If consent is refused, no ad is requested. Users outside these regions are not shown a consent message. US users in states with privacy laws (California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and others) will see a state-appropriate opt-out notice.

How to change or withdraw advertising consent. In any WagDev app that shows ads, open Settings and tap Privacy options to bring the same consent message back up at any time, change any choice, or withdraw consent entirely. A withdrawal takes effect on the next ad request. The Privacy options row appears only for users who were shown a consent message in the first place, so it is not present outside the EEA, the UK and Switzerland.

Separately, and in every region, Android users can use the system privacy settings (Settings → Google → Ads) to reset or disable the advertising identifier. These two controls do different things: the in-app consent message changes your answer about ad data processing, while the system setting governs the advertising identifier itself. On iOS there is nothing equivalent to change, because no WagDev app asks for tracking permission and none receives the advertising identifier.
